EDGES

Hello Naturalistas!

Hope you are all keeping your tresses and mane healthy?
Today I am going to be talking about EDGES….
Your edges are the part of your hair which is close to your forehead. It is the part where your hairline starts from.

Everyone wants to have edges that are thick and healthy, but we put pressure on our edges by placing so much weight on them.

There are various factors that can cause our edges to thin and look bad.

1. – wearing tight protective styles that place so much tenson our edges. E.g protective stylings like box braids, senegalese twists, and other hair styles.

2- using of brushes, whether toothbrushes or hairbrushes to brush our edges. When this is done, you start to lose hair especially when you do not moisturize your hair.

3- wearing a tight hair net, headgear, and other things that have elastic or rope on your hair will place tension on edges and you start to lose them.

4- dryness can also cause your edges to thin and then break off leaving you with a bald patch.

5- fixing of weaves and extensions with bonding glue  can cause loss of edges because the glue is attached to your hairline and when you want to take the weave out, it comes off with your hair. This could also be the result from fake glues, or getting your hair done by an amateur stylist.

Here are ways to get your edges back if you are suffering from bad, thin or  loss of edges.

1- avoid wearing tight protective styles like braids, thread, weavon etc. They place tension on your hair. You could tell your hair stylist to leave some hair from your edges before starting your hair, this will help.

2- stop wearing hair nets on your hair. You can get satin or silk scarves/bonnets to wear. They are safer and help your hair to retain moisture. .

3- using brushes on your edges when dry will pull out your hair without you even noticing. You can apply shea butter or any hair oil on your edges and use your fingertips to smoothen your hair down. Or you could use a very soft brush after you moisturize your edges.

4- castor oil is very good for bouncing back your edges. Massage hair with castor oil every night before bed and wear a satin or silk scarf/bonnet. You will be sure to see improvement.

5- try as much as possible to moisturize your hair with water and water-based products. They are the best. You know your hair needs water so give it some!

6- avoid using flat irons on your hair without heat protectants. You know what?? Avoid heat for a long time because flat-iron will make your edges weak and thin. Eventually, they'll break off.

7- restrain from protective styles that require the use of bonding glues or the likes if you are planning on growing your edges back.

In conclusion, try as much as possible to reduce the tension and stress placed on our edges due to some of the protective styles we do.

Have you had a. bad experience with your edges before?
